Maca Root

Maca, Lepidium meyenni, is a root crop with a 2000+ year history of use as a nutrient-dense food in the Andean culture. Maca grows wild, but is primarily cultivated in the highland regions of the Peruvian Andes mountains. Or we should say, the best maca is grown here (watch out for Chinese maca). Maca root can be either yellow (most common), red or black and each of these color phenotypes have something special about its composition that can confer slightly different health benefits.

Maca root is considered your classic adaptogen for its ability to help your body respond to physical, mental, and emotional stressors. It has a balancing and normalizing influence on the body. More specifically, maca root may support sustained energy and stamina. It is also associated with balancing hormones and supporting a healthy libido. For women, maca is used for all stages of life’s hormonal challenges including PMS, menopause, and hot flashes. For men, it is used to support a healthy libido and reproductive system.  To boot, maca is loaded with nutrients like vitamin C, copper and zinc, making it a nutritional powerhouse.

As usual, we have your back in selecting a maca powder that checks all the boxes. We use red and black maca root that is cultivated with care in the Junin region of the Peruvian Andes. It is certified organic, kosher, non-GMO and is dried through a natural sun-drying process. We also use a technique called “gelatinization” to make our maca easier to digest.  Despite how it sounds, it has nothing to do with gelatin; it’s a specialized process that degrades the starch in the maca tuber through the use of heat, making it more concentrated than raw maca and easier on your digestion.
