Maca Root

Maca, Lepidium meyenni, is a root crop with a 2000+ year history of use as a nutrient-dense food in the Andean culture. Maca grows wild, but the best and purest cultivated in the highland regions of the Peruvian Andes mountains. Maca root can be either yellow (most common), red, or black and each of these color phenotypes has a unique composition with slightly different health benefits.

Maca root is a classic adaptogen, having the ability to support the body’s resilience through physical, mental, and emotional stresss, bringing a balancing and normalizing influence. More specifically, maca root may support sustained energy and stamina, and is also associated with promoting healthy libido and hormone balance. For women, maca fosters stability through natural, age-related hormone shifts. For men, it also supports a healthy libido and reproductive system. What’s more, maca is loaded with essential nutrients like vitamin C, copper and zinc, making it a nutritional powerhouse.

We include both red and black maca root that is cultivated with care in the Junin region of the Peruvian Andes. Each ingredient is certified organic, kosher, non-GMO, and is dried through a natural sun-drying process. We also use a technique called “gelatinization” to make our maca easier to digest. Despite how it sounds, it has nothing to do with gelatin; it’s a specialized process that breaks down the starch in the maca tuber through the use of heat, making it more concentrated than raw maca and easier on your digestion.
