I want you to meet Lorraine May, who recently turned 102 years old.

She is the mother of Mitchell May, the founder of The Synergy Company. I met her briefly on FaceTime, and I walked away thinking about her for days. There is a smile on her that could out-smile anyone in the room. She is active, works out, plays with her dog, and has opinions she is not shy about sharing. She has a history of travel and adventure. She is, in the best possible sense, completely herself. Still.

If you know Mitchell's story, which is one of recovery and resilience that most of us would have a hard time imagining, then you know something about the woman who loved him through it. There are moments when the mountains are too big to move, and all you can do is show up for someone and refuse to stop believing in them. That kind of love is quiet heroism. Lorraine has it in abundance.

Mitchell is, by his own admission, an accidental entrepreneur. He never set out to build a wellness brand. What he set out to do was find something genuinely excellent for the people he loved, and when he couldn't find it, he made it himself. The way he formulates is what people inside the company call "bog crawls." The diligence, the time, the curiosity, the long-form critical thinking, the intricacy, the willingness to go deep into the science and stay there until it is right, and to consider everyone the work touches along the way. Not because of a market opportunity. Because that's how he knows how to take care of people. That DNA runs through everything we make, and honestly, I think it starts with her.

Lorraine has been on Pure Synergy since the beginning. And honestly, when I look at her, I have to ask the question: is it the formulations and products, the genetics, the lifestyle? Probably all three, and I think that's exactly the point. Lorraine isn't a testimonial. She's a whole life. That's what we all really want.

If this were a conventional marketing email, this is the part where I'd ask you to buy something. I'm not going to do that today. Though I will share Lorraine's ritual in a future email. What I want right now is simpler. I want you to have a good moment, and maybe help someone else have one too.

So here is my invitation. Live a little vicariously with Lorraine this week. Dial up your zest.

Before you go to sleep tonight, go outside and look at the night sky for ten minutes. Just breathe and let it be vast. When you see someone with a smile that lights up a room, tell them, share your gratitude for their light. Give your people a real toast, make eye contact, mean it. Reach out to someone you've lost touch with. Tell them Lorraine inspired you and you wanted to say hi again.

Time is both longer and shorter than we think. Each moment is a chance to make your life a little bigger by making someone else's a little better, even if it is just for an instant. Don't just increase your lifespan, increase your joyspan!

Take care of yourself well, so you can take care of the people you love longer.

Cheers to Lorraine. And cheers to you.

With love,
Jen Briggs
