Blue-Green Algae Health Benefits

We use our Organic Blue-Green Algae Powder to supercharge these tasty recipes. Officially known as Aphanizomenon flos-aquae or AFA, this form of algae is one of nature’s most regenerative food sources. It grows naturally in the mineral-rich waters of Upper Klamath Lake in Oregon. Its balanced and complete nutrient profile gives it the remarkable capacity to help nurture our physical and mental health. It is also one of the world's most concentrated sources of chlorophyll, a phytonutrient considered by many to be a valuable cleansing compound.

To top it off, blue-green algae contains peptide molecules that have been shown to enhance and heighten mental clarity. Not to mention the special pigment called phycocyanin that gives it that radiant blue-green color. Phycocyanin has been shown to support a healthy inflammation response and is a powerful antioxidant.

With this long list of benefits, you can see why we love our blue-green algae and went to work to create some delicious recipes for you to try. Keep in mind, you can also go the simple route and mix your blue-green algae powder in water or your favorite smoothie. But if you’re in the mood for something new, we hope you enjoy these sweet algae treats. Bon appétit!

Blue-Green Algae Nice Cream

Nothing says summer like some sweet ice cream. This vegan superfood version is so simple. It's packed with healthy fats from coconut milk, potassium from bananas, and protein, vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients from the blue-green algae. It's extraordinarily creamy, tasty, and, of course, healthy!

Makes 4-6 servings:

Chill coconut milk upside-down in the refrigerator overnight. If short on time, freeze for 10-15 minutes. Drain and set aside the liquid from the canned coconut milk, leaving you with the coconut cream. Add coconut cream to your blender.

Add remaining ingredients to the blender (using the remaining coconut milk liquid to reach desired consistency) and mix until creamy. Enjoy immediately or freeze. Scoop and enjoy!

  • 3 tsp Organic Blue-Green Algae Powder

  • 2 tbsp raw honey (or to taste)
  • 1/2 cup frozen blueberries
  • Popsicle mold

Blend all ingredients until smooth. Pour into molds and freeze overnight. To remove from molds, thaw at room tempurature for a few minutes. Enjoy the frozen edible joy!
