Blue-Green Algae Health Benefits

Officially known as Aphanizomenon flos-aquae or AFA, blue-green algae is one of nature’s most renewable food sources. Grown naturally in the mineral-rich waters of Upper Klamath Lake in Oregon, blue-green algae has a balanced and complete nutrient profile that gives it the remarkable capacity to help nurture both physical and mental wellness. Blue-green algae is also one of the world's most concentrated sources of chlorophyll, a phytonutrient considered by many to promote healthy detoxification and cleansing.

To top it off, blue-green algae contains peptide molecules that have been shown to enhance mental clarity, plus radiant blue-green pigments called phycocyanins that provide powerful antioxidant support for immune health.

With this impressive list of benefits, you can see why we wanted to create more ways to add our Organic Blue-Green Algae to your day. Try these naturally sweetened treats to boost your energy and enrich your health.

Blue-Green Algae Nice Cream

This vegan superfood version of ice cream is so simple, and it’s packed with healthy fats from coconut milk, potassium from bananas, plus protein, vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients from the blue-green algae. And healthy or not, this extraordinarily creamy, tasty treat is a delight for kids of all ages.

Makes 4-6 servings:

4-5 ripe frozen bananas
1 can full-fat coconut milk
4 tbsp raw honey
2 tbsp Organic Blue-Green Algae Powder

Chill coconut milk upside-down in the refrigerator overnight. If short on time, freeze for 10-15 minutes. Drain and set aside the liquid from the canned coconut milk, reserving the coconut cream.

Add coconut cream and rest of the ingredients to the blender (using the remaining coconut milk liquid to reach desired consistency) and mix until creamy. Enjoy immediately or freeze. Scoop and enjoy!
